Major GF Dickinson (DSO)

Major George Frederick Dickinson served in the 15th Australian Infantry Battalion during the First World War (1914-1918).

Youngest Major in all of British Armed Forces - WW1 (Aged 21)

Awarded the Distinguished Service Order​1​​2​.

  • He was born in Murwillumbah, New South Wales, on November 27, 1894​2
  • Prior to his military service, he worked as a bank clerk​2
  • He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on September 23, 1914, in Brisbane, Queensland​2
  • He was initially enlisted as a Second Lieutenant and embarked for service abroad in December of the same year.
  • He was then promoted to Lieutenant in February 1915 and to Captain in September 1915.
  • By November 1916, he had attained the rank of Major​2
  • He was wounded at Gallipoli in May 1915​2
  • He was discharged from service on February 6, 1919​2
  • He passed away due to natural causes on April 26, 1959, in Lindfield, New South Wales​2
